The company was growing rapidly thanks to its 200 employees. However the brand was facing a financial problems due to the losses on the US market further to the custom taxes increase.
After two bankruptcy, Rauschenbach which is the manufacturer of the equipment bought IWC in 1879.
1936 : The Pilot watch for the aviators
The brand focused its development on the watch production for the aviators. Then in 1936 IWC launched its first watch resistant again the aircraft depression. It has a big black dial, luminous indexes, rotating bezel, a hand indicator with an anti magnetic calibre inside. Since this great launch, the brand continued to involve in the aviation universe.
1939 : The Portuguese
Further to the demand of two Portuguese IWC partners, Rodrigues and Teixeira, IWC launched in 1939 a wrist watch with a very précised in house movement. The Portuguese became the icon of the brand.
IWC will produce also the Aquatimer, the first diver watch of the brand dedicated to the army.
2000 : The Richemont Group
IWC joined Richemont in 2000, after having been in the portfolio of Les Manufactures Horlogères S.A. Group in1991 with Jaeger Le Coultre.
